Police Officer Investigation?

Hello, I had a question if anyone has had this experience or know what happens. So, my brother is going to be work for the police and they asked him to give out all his families names, date of births and emails. Will the FBI check my information or check my private pictures for something even though I am not trying to be a police officer. Does anyone know what happens and why they need this information?
