The USA has vastly more variation in natural wonders and human created and performed. The area of Australia of about 3 million sq miles (7.77 million sq km) versus USA 3.12 Contiguous and 3.8 in 50 States and DC and 3.8 in total area including territories, is not a huge difference. In any considering of diverse, USA is far more. If travel has factors of absolute safety and friendly welcoming people and seeking out strange animals in nature, Australia has distinct advantages.
I can't say how easy internal transportation is in one to the other. The USA is based on private or rental automobiles and planes. Only major cities have decent public transportation. I have to think Australia is better set up, but don't know for sure.
Travel to a place is based on what a person likes to see and do. Setting aside the pandemic as hopefully temporary, the USA has it all. I live in the USA, lived and visited many places, and it's a shame people can't be better human beings.
We think of travel in the USA as a single city or regional. I was given an around the USA travel tour as a teenager over 7 weeks in a summer. It was incredible. The cost today is outrageous to do the same thing.
