Do you really have to be 18 years or older in order to legally change your name?

So I wanted to change my name for a while now and I asked my parents if I can change my name and they both said that I have to wait until I get older. I have been searching up on how to legally change your name. I saw that it can be for a legal adult or a minor child. So I was slightly confused. I don’t know if you really have to be 18 or just get it changed as a minor. I would like it if someone answer this.

To do it on your own, yes.  To do it as a minor, your parents have to agree.
