How can I keep myself from getting bulky from competitive swimming? ?

I'm trying to lose weight and get really petite and not have bulky swimmer shoulders and thighs I get from competitive swimming. Now, I have to choose between XC and swimming and I want to do swimming because I like it more but XC will make me skinnier. So is there a way I can get bony from swimming/ not put on external muscle?

Swimmers do not have bulky bodies. They have long, sleek bodies. Google some pictures of Janet Evans, a very petite swimmer. Now- the shoulders are often from weight lifting in order to increase muscles to swim faster. Normal high school swimmers don't build up big shoulders. But I think you've got some very strange ideas about what should look like. Being bony is not attractive. Being fit and sleek is.
