Are there tv shows with 27 episodes in each season or 28?

I've noticed that many Tv shows tend to have either 26 episodes per season or 20-24 per season and i was just curious

It depends on the show and episode order. Some have 27 and some don't..

There are, of course, some shows that are on 5 days a week, and, so, they have many more episodes in a season.

But, originally, 26 was the standard for a weekly show in the US because there are 52 weeks in a year, so that allowed for 26 first-run episodes and then those shows were reruns in the summer.

But economics came into play and they decided that they could get away with only producing 22 or 23 episodes.

In the end, all decisions are made by humans who use whatever data they have to try to decide what makes the most sense at the time.  All sorts of factors can be considered.  They are NOT required to have consistent logic between networks or years.

However, England has always done things differently.  They planned short seasons, often only 6 episodes.  They didn't have a goal to have long-running shows that lasted for years.  If the first season was well received, they'd come back a year later and make 6 more.  The actors would go off and do movies or plays in between, but the crew might work on a completely different 6-episode show.  A cameraman was a cameraman.

So, the US cable networks got the idea that they could do things more like England.  And, now, there aren't any real rules.

It varies now. Shorter seasons have become more popular especially now with cable and streaming.(8-13)

Though broadcast fall shows tend to stick with the longer seasons around (18-24)

In the past a season was defined by 26 episodes. Around seven or eight years ago the TV show Keeping Up with the Kardashians started with the 8 episode season. Now nearly every TV show and cable show only produces and airs between eight and 12 episodes and calls it a season. That is why TV shows that have been on only three or four years claim they've been on for 9 or 10 seasons.
