Cars: How many miles can you drive a 98 Toyota Avalon without servicing the transmission before it falls apart?

    Transmissions do not fall apart.. Expect no trouble at all for at least 200,000 miles. Changing fluid does not heal wear or repair worn out seals and gaskets, and if they are not troublesome, leave them alone. However, if you slam and dog the car you will break things.

    How long is a piece of string?  There's no way to answer that question.  You're better off just servicing it, even if you want to do it the cheap way, by letting out all the old fluid, and replacing it with new fluid.  That would cost about $20-30.
