    Linear units are cm, rat = right angles triangle, wea = with equal arms;

    Figure has 1 large rat wea each 24 and 6 small rats wea each 4.;

    Total area = (1/2)(24^2 + 6*4^2)cm^2  = (288+48)cm^2 = 336cm^2.

    The area of the set of stairs can be found by breaking it up into smaller pieces.

    We have a large triangle that is 24x24 and 6 smaller triangles that are 4x4.

    Find the area of each of them and add them together:

    A = bh/2 and A = bh/2

    A = 24(24)/2 and A = 4(4)/2

    A = 288 and A = 8

    There are 6 smaller triangles, so we get:

    288 + 6(8)

    288 + 48

    336 cm²

    That's the total area of the staircase object.
