9 times out of 10, (in a street fight) all else being equal, the "better conditioned" fighter will win, unless he is "sucker-punched", blind-sided, or otherwise ambushed by his opponent.

I suppose you mean "Kung Fu" rather than "King Fu". In Cantonese dialect of China, Kung Fu implies Great Achievement in Skill (in any field gained by years of hard and intelligent work). Literally, Martial Arts in Wu Shu in Mandarin Chinese, Mou Seut in Cantonese and Bujutsu in Japanese. Karate is a Japanese mainly Striking Style that means "Empty Hand". Who wins depends upon the skill of the men who fight in a given match.

Different styles but kung fu is based on closing the gap so if that was done it would eliminate the advantage of karate.

Maybe kung-fu should be changed to king-fu, since it is the king of martial arts.

Both are equally qualified. Depends on the physical strength of the fighter.

There are a few things to consider, and they predominantly boil down to the individual rather than style vs. style, such as who trains with more intensity for actual self-defense/combat, weight, reach, height, endurance, flexibility, whether or not it is in a controlled environment, if it is one-on-one, if weapons are involved, if it's really sunny out and one has sunglasses, etc.

Also, something else to consider: what single method of the dozens of different styles of karate vs. what single method of the hundreds of different methods of Chinese boxing (for the sake of Megumi and some others, "kung fu" is a misnomer and at its origin, it basically translates to "bitter work" rather than specifically being attributed to Chinese martial arts, but we all knew what you meant).
