why are humans the only animal with a race?

never understood this not even other apes have this humans are the only animal on earth with races how and why is this possible?

animals are called differant species not races,we're animals and we have races and i don't understand why.

the ability to think is found in almost all animals not just humans

Update 2:

ok so "race" only exists in humans because we identify traits in humans that are not identified in animals as a way of differentiating them from us.

the skin color of an ape is not acknowlaged in their classification as an ape but is classified in hairless apes with the intent of seperating us. got it

We are all so similar because we are the survivors of our genus.

All other human species and subspecies went extinct or scarcely merged with us (Neanderthals, Flores, Denisovans, Naledi...).

Moreover, our species Homo sapiens went twice through severe genetic bottlenecks 150,000 and 60,000 years ago, each time with a few hundreds of reproducing couples remaining.

Let's compare with our most familiar pet animal:

    - Unlike Homo, the genus Canis comprises a dozen of species of wolves, jackals, and coyotes. One of them is Canis lupus (aka "grey wolf").

    - Within Canis lupus there are 15 to 20 subspecies of wolves. One of them is Canis lupus famliaris (colloquially "dogs").

    - Humans created over 500 breeds of dogs in order to fit their needs (hunting, herding, pulling  the sledge, guarding... and eventually petting). Let's consider the English cocker spaniel (because it's such a cheerful dog! )

    - There are a dozen of colors allowed in English cocker spaniel exhibitions.

So pick 2 random people wherever on this planet, regardless their skin color, their lactose tolerance, or the  shape of their eyes, their genetic distance (number of divergent base pairs) would be similar to the distance between a golden and a black English cocker spaniel!

    Other apes:

    You're wrong,

    - there are 2 species of chimpanzees: the common chimp and the bonobo.

The common chimp has 4 subspecies

    - also 2 species of gorillas, each one came in 2 subspecies. That makes 4 subspecies, a 5th one is being defined

    - only one species of orangutans, but 4 subspecies.

If you're not a specialist, you probably can't tell apart 2 species of gorillas, let alone subspecies.

But I'm sure you can tell who is your buddy John among his siblings. And if you're familiar enough with them, you could tell identical twins apart.

This is because our sight evolved to detect the slightest differences between people in order to identify them.

This skill is part of our recognition system. Other social animals rely on odors, or sounds, we identify people by their look.

Moreover if you're American, you have also the ability to trace people geographical ancestry because this is what your social categorization is based on.

We are the only animal to come up with that classification for ourselves.

Why are humans the only ones with families? Why do humans have chins? No other animal does. Because...we're not animals.

more like different breeds, similar to dogs... like how german shephards are smarter and look different than other dogs different human breeds are the same way it's not racism it's reality.

  • Hello, i add, a person think, a human is person but not animal,, because a human think, thus a human is person but not animal, thus if the animal become think then it will become person and aware, but a human has race because he live in different environments and he is person and he is increase.. where sometimes the environment form the thing or person properties..

We aren't.  The 17th century hypothesis that humans come in "races" turned out to be bollox as soon as we started comparing people's DNA.

Real races of dogs, cows, pigs, horses, chickens etc exist because we purposebred them

There are variations in skin color between humans but they aren't "other types" of humans. The same is true of other animals. There more variation between a Great Dane and a Terrier than an African and a European.
