Best way to lay sign vinyl?

What's the best way to lay down sign vinyl on to aluminium without getting creases or air bubbles underneath it?

I'm using Ritrama brand vinyl (which isn't great). When I use the 'wet method', the edges of the vinyl usually end up not sticking down to the surface, and when I use the dry method (usually the butterfly (tape down the middle) method) it gets creases and air underneath, and when I try to lift the vinyl it just starts to crease and tear permanently.

I've tried a larger size squeegee (which has made things better) but it's still not great.

Any other advice?
