While cleaning out a new home I found a bunch of loose change, mostly pennies, in 2 different  closets. Is this some kind of custom?

Update:

Update: these coins were behind shelves, not just sitting on the floor. I didn’t find them until I pulled the shelves out and they started falling everywhere.

If they are not old enough to be of any value take them to a coin wrapping place .  There is a machine that you pour the coins in and it counts them and wraps them .

They saw it when they were cleaning up and did not care.

The people who lived there before used to hang their slacks up after use between washes.  The coins will have dropped from pockets.
