why do people like "McThings"?  like a "McMansion" or a "McLandscape"?

    It connotes cheap and common, i.e. McDonald's Restaurants.

    Its a judgment  statement  indicating that it is mass  produced, not of  a high  quality and  generally  identical. Like  the  Rubbish that  you get at McDonalds  hamburger chain.

    They do not realise that there is an implied Scottishness in any such term.  If they did they would be horrified.

    They consider it a close enough approximation of something that they can't afford.

    When I was a teenager, people call strangers "Mac" I made fun of that and call them McMac.
