I need two files files from a failed HD I don’t need a new copy of it and I don’t want to pay $200 for two files? Is there an alternative?

The answer depends entirely upon the exact cause of the drive failure.

If the heads have collided with the disc surface then the data may be irretrievable.

If the logic board has failed then transplanting a logic board from an identical drive *might* get it working enough to recover your data. Or you may just end up with two useless drives instead of one.

Professional data recovery contractors have lots of tricks and specialist tools but those investments in tools and time need to be paid for and produce a profit, so they are not cheap.

Almost everyone eventually loses data because they failed to back it up. If you’re wiser than I have been then you won’t make that mistake twice.
