How do I prevent recessed basement lights from overheating the floors above them?

    I assume that the bulbs in your fixtures are standard incandescent bulbs. If so, I would suggest that you replace them with LED bulbs. An LED bulb that puts out the equivalent amount of light as a traditional 60W bulb only uses about 8W and the wattage consumed by a bulb directly translates to the bulb's heat output. This means that a 60W traditional bulb puts out roughly 7 to 8 times more heat than the equivalent LED bulb. Since you pay your power company based upon the number of watts you use, the traditional bulb also costs you 7-8 times more to operate.
