    Depends on what sort of work you're doing, where you are & how good you are at it (call backs, warrantee calls really eat into profits). A poor tradesman will never make good money long term.

    Working for yourself (generally) makes you more money & more chance of going broke

    Automotive is the least lucrative if all you're interested in is money. If I had to do it again I would have gone heavy duty, either at a factory service center or at the oil patch where there's silly money.

    Plumbers.  $90 an hour.  Time driving to your house included.  $90 plus parts to replace a flapper valve.  Those guys are loving it.
