His new salary is = $ 43300 + increase in salary.

His new salary is = $43,300 + 9% of ( $43,300 )

9% means ( 9/100 ) = 0.09. Hence -----

His new salary is = $ 43,300 + ( 0.09 ) of ( $43,300 )

=> $ 43,300 + $ 3897

=> $ 47197 ..................... (ANSWER)

The KEY here is that his new salary will include what he was making before his raise + the amount of his raise. So you'll take the $43,300 he's making now and then add the dollar amount of his raise to it.

Raise amount = $43,300 x 9% = $_________

+ $ 43,000 salary before his raise

= $ _________ salary after the raise

NEW salary = $43,300 + 9%($43,300)

....................= $43,300 + 9%($43,300)

....................= $43,300 + (0.09)($43,300)

....................= $43,300 + 3,897

....................= $47,197.......................ANS

// You could also calculae the new salary by

// simply multiplying 43300 (1.09) = 47197

Method I

s = 43,300 * 1.09

s = 47,197

$47,197 < ––––––––

------------------

Method II

Amount of increase

9% = .09

43,300 * .09 = 3,897

New salary = old salary + increase

New = 43,300 + 3,897

New = 47,197

$47,197 <––––––
