How do you calculate the maximum continuous load of an ac to dc power supply?
I vaguely recall reading an article about finding the intended continuous load of an ac to dc power supply. It went something like:
1. Measure the output voltage with no load.
2. Apply a high wattage 1k ohm rheostat to the output and adjust it until the voltage is 10% of the no load voltage.
3. Use ohm’s law to calculate the maximum current that can be safely drawn from the power supply.
Assuming a no load voltage less than 15 volts does this sound reasonable?

Find the specs of all of the parts in the Power supply and make sure they are not exceeded by using a suitable circuit breaker or fuse in the primary.
