Franks are already cooked-effectively you are just reheating them. But is also matters on how LONG they are out of date. A few days-fine. Six Months? I'd pass on that-unless they were frozen.

With out of date stuff, you run a risk.  No sense gambling to save a few dollars on buying fresh franks.

Yes you can eat them - should you is a different question - depends on how out of date and/or if they smell off are slimy or mushy.

It depends upon how out-of-date and which frankfurthers. The date is a best by, or to be sold by date or a use by date. Most frankfurters have been cooked and cured.

    The guidance is:

If the date stamped says USE BY, take it seriously. No more than a few days after in a sealed package.

No date or sell by date or best by date, two weeks in the fridge unopened and no more than a week after opening it.

If they smell bad, a bit sour, they are bad.
