A 4.00 kg particle has the xy coordinates (−1.20 m, 0.500 m) and a 4.50 kg particle has the xy coordinates (0.600 m, −0.750 m). ?

A 4.00 kg particle has the xy coordinates (−1.20 m, 0.500 m) and a 4.50 kg particle has the xy coordinates (0.600 m, −0.750 m). Both lie on a horizontal plane. At what x and y coordinates must you place a 5.00 kg particle such that the center of mass of the three-particle system has the coordinates (−0.500 m, −0.700 m)?

(a) x coordinate

(b) y coordinate

    (a) 4.00*-1.20 + 4.50*0.600 + 5.00*x = 13.5*-0.500

    for x in meters

    x = -0.930 m

    (b) 4.00*0.500 + 4.50*-0.750 + 5.00*y = 13.5*-0.700

    for y in meters

    y = -1.62 m
