Does the anonymous option give freedom for hate speech, death threats and criminal activity? And how does Yahoo take responsibility?

Anonymity guarantees freedom from responsibility and accountability. Family and friends need never know what you post.

On threads embracing certain topics - race and immigration - Yahoo Comments can and does become an echo chamber for racist views and ignorance. Coverage of the accidental death of 11 year-old Muslim girl, Evah Jannath, at Dreyton Manor theme park, quite literally attracted calls for "celebration" at the death of "a little Muzzie breeder" who's "sand nygger"  father was distraught "at the death of the eldest of his four wives", and many, many more. Threads on stories about the grooming gangs systematically condemned ALL Asian men as paedophiles, merely conforming to the 'norms' of Muslim 'culture'. Stories concerning the Grenfell disaster saw repeated allegations of the fire being caused by an Asian tenant cooking a goat on an open fire on his kitchen floor. A great many posts preferred to question the immigration status of victims rather than the extent of the tragedy or its actual causes.  All comments were of course made anonymously.

Challenges and counter arguments were/are routinely met with abuse, generally focussing on school-playground level imaginings of a poster's sexuality, and sometimes threats of physical violence.

Threads that developed around the imprisonment and release of Tommy Robinson attracted most vitriol, with promises of 'receiving a visit'. I've been threatened with broken bones and fire-bombing!  All the above attracted support via the 'thumbs' facility - though lack of supporting comments may have signified multiple account holding, sometimes openly boasted of on the site. All of the above was posted under the cloak of anonymity.

I reported many of these examples but they remained in situ, while I and several other 'liberal' Yahoo users were subjected to deleted comments and posting history by a third party, usually after a warning it was about to happen as a punishment for our 'snowflake' or 'libtard' views.

The Anonymous function simply hides the YA identity of the user who made the post. ANY post may be reported as a violation, and all posts of the content you describe SHOULD be reported.

It does  allow excessive stalking......but even anon posts can be reported.

  • Yahoo doesn't take responsibility it all Yahoo member faults for not reporting them so they were removed.  Yahoo only review appeals.  They never take responsibilities.

Don't really think its Yahoo's responsibility for what you do.

No because you can set up a full profile with anything you want, so it's just as anonymous.  With some computer skills, you can make it practically impossible to identify the real person
