Why does my car make me press brake pedal to start (not push button)?

Just bought a used 2017 ford escape SE model. It's a regular turn key not push to start. I have to push the brake pedal and turn the key to start. Ford did not make it this way, curious what modification someone could have done to make t this way so I can change it back.

It's a safety feature, they want to make sure your foot is on the brake when you start the car, so you don't run someone over.  As far as "changing it back", that is not going to happen.

Sounds like so you have control of the car.

Your car can't "make" you do anything. It's a safety feature.

It's safer that way, so the car can't accidentally start moving as soon as you start the engine.

Every automatic of the last 15 years or more all have the press brake to start up.

    It's a safety feature.
