I mailed my paper return at the end of April and still nothing?

Is it really taking the IRS this long to process paper returns? It's been well over seven weeks.

It really is taking that long.  In a regular year, it's 8-12 weeks.

The IRS stopped processing paper returns in March and hasn't restarted yet.  Your paper return could well be in a tractor trailer with a whole bunch of other mail.

When they do start processing again, it will be in receipt order.

In a NORMAL year, the IRS would just be getting around to opening tax returns mailed on APRIL 15. This year, they are behind schedule.

Yes, it is really taking this long.  They had to stop all processing of paper returns for about two months because of the virus, and it's expected to take about a year to get caught up.
