Can the police do anything about our roommate taking and hiding apartment stove parts from us so we’re unable to make food for ourselves?
We live in an apartment and he doesn’t own the stove or the stove parts, it came with the apartment. He’s done this before and we’ve managed to trick him into giving us the parts back but we just don’t want to deal with it. Can the police do anything about this?

No, the police have nothing to do with this. Civil issue, not criminal. Maybe if the doorknob to his room turned up missing he'd act different.

Your ONLY option is to go online and purchase some stove knobs. Do you know what brand stove it is ? Call them and buy some knobs and do not give them to this guy. Remove the knobs when your done and keep them in a secret safe place away from him. When the lease is up have him move.

I dont think they'd bother. You could say he's stealing the parts but he keeps giving them back so he really isn't. No harm in asking the police to talk to him. Maybe they will and maybe that will scare him into do longer doing it but they have better things to do and it doesn't address the undelying problem (whatever that even is). Maybe you just need to have a lng talk with him about why he does this and what can you do to get him to stop.

It's worth a try. Have you informed property management about it?

You may not want to deal with him, but you HAVE to. This is your roommate. Your landlord is not going to want to deal with a personal matter. The guy obviously has some sort of issue with you, and YOU are the ones who need to get him to leave. Don't expect the police to step in on such a matter--it's your responsibility.

Immature games are not a police matter. You chose to room together so put up with it, or teach him a lesson, like making something of his disappear (temporarily). Tell him to grow up and when the lease is up, renew with the good tenants and inform the landlord that you are not renewing with j*erk*ss.Source(s): Certified Paralegal, with 25+ years' experience & with Landlord & Tenant law experience.

This is a matter of civil law, the police only deal in matters of criminal law.

No, but your landlord can. He's putting the stove use as a hazard for the building. Call your landlord and discuss the behavior in light of safety/danger issues. Have the idiot roommate evicted.
