How does the walnut tree make nuts without first having blossoms?

I have a black walnut tree and every year in summer it produces Nuts but I never noticed any flowers - how does that work?

There is blossoms with pollen in spring. But like oak trees, they don't look like flowers.

Walnut trees do produce flowers, they just aren't the ornamental type that you'd be likely to notice or recognize as flowers. Each tree has both male and female flowers present, they are pollinated by wind so they have no need of colors or shapes that would serve to attract pollinators like bees or butterflies.

The article linked in the Source section below gives a good explanation of this, and includes a couple of excellent photos showing the flowers. Once you've seen the photos you'll know what to look for and will recognize the flowers when you see them.
