My new neighbors are somewhat aloof. Is it meet that I should continue to greet them with a cheery hello?

It depends. Do they not reply? If so, no, I would not continue to say hello. However, if they nod then stick their noses in the air, I would continue to wave or nod myself.

I don't want to be friends with any neighbours - but I would always smile and say hello back. Who is to say? In time, I may stop and chat . . .
