The diagram is a trapezium

Area of a trapezium is = Average Length of two sides multiplied by height

= 4*(10+6)/2=32

If you move the left hand triangle to the other end you end up with a rectangle 8 x 4 cm.

4*8= 32 cm^2

There is insufficient given information to derive the area. The image suggests a trapezoid, and that was the assumption in at least five responses preceding mine, but that is not actually a given condition. We are given no reason to conclude that any two sides are parallel.

Assuming it is a symmetric trapezium, then

A = h(L + S) / 2

Where

A = area

h = perpendicular height ( 4cm)

L = longer parallel side (10 cm)

S = shorter parallel side (6 cm)

Substitute

A = 4(10 + 6) / 2

A = 2(10 + 6)

A = 2(16)

A = 32 cm^2

We have values for all three unknowns. Substitute and simplify:

A = (10 + 6)(4) / 2

A = 16(4) / 2
