"Please write account number on correspondence" what does this mean?

What is a correspondence? I'm mailing a check for a bill and this is written on the back of the envelope to send it in. What account number do I use and where would I write it?

Its your 'customer' account number that you can write on the back of the check.

Your account number should be somewhere on the bill, and they want you to write in on your check, in case it gets separated from anything else.  "Correspondence" means anything else you send them.

Correspondence refers to written communication. They want you to put your account number on anything written regarding your account.

Correspondence is a catch all term for all written communication.  Add your account number to the instruction to pay the bill.
