The colour of your skin AND the fact that you may exhibit other African characteristics e.g. Everted lips ; Crinkly hair ; longer limbs(arms/legs) than Caucasians(Whites) and Mongoloids (Asiatics/Chinese)

Many people from other parts of the world e.g. India are dark skinned but are NOT 'black' because they do not exhibit other  African characteristics.

There are four main ethnic groups, viz, Neg-roids(Black), Caucasoids (White) , Mongoloids(Asiatics) and Australoids( Australian Aboriginees).

Each group exhibits different physical & neurological  characteristics.

There is also at the geographic interface of the groups a large degree of DNA/biological mixing.

I leave you to investigate the differences , starting in Wikipedia'.
