should they 'do away' with adverts on tv?

the modern adverts now , they are just brainwashing, intrusive, long and interrupt any decent show you are trying to watch...i truly think they should be done away with...especially on channels like talking picture that show all the old great films, that way, we could enjoy watching reel and reel of interesting old films without the constant advert interruption.

Sure, but then the networks have to be financed some other way. In several countries people pay taxes for some channels. In Germany that tax even is voluntary!

Here in the netherlands the national channels are filled by broadcasting-associations that have members who pay a yearly fee.  Those channels still have adverts on them though

Wouldn't this be great!  However, what you see on TV is costly so advertising is necessary.

It's not a question of 'Should They', it's rather 'Will it' as in ' Will it die a natural death? The answer is yes. Digital marketing is becoming more and more relevant these days. OTT platforms give you more variety and much more convenience. So, I strongly feel that it would happen.

Go spend your stimulus money and leave the philosophy to the grown ups.

How do you propose that TV series pay for their actors, writers, effects, and so on?

You have the option to pay for ad-free channels like HBO. But the channels that are available for free are paid for by advertising.

You also have the option to rent movies from the library, if they are available in a format you can play.

    There would be no content.

If you want to do that get the DVD or a streaming service compatible with your TV.

No movies should be continued to edit for content and time to fit their 30 minute segment programming slots.
