Why do they say that a beer bottle will take longer than the titanic to decompose in the ocean?

What is so special about bottles that makes them last so long? Why do beverage containers take so long to break down?

Glass is composed of silicon IV oxide. The bonds between silicon and oxygen are very strong. silicon oxide is one of the hardest natural substances, just like grains of sand are hard. Glass is composed of disordered silicon dioxide giant molecule structure and is not decomposed easily by heat, sunlight or usual bacteria or fungi.

Beer in the beer bottle is equally controversial. Alcohol addiction is one of the most common addictions in USA and has seen many casualties.
