Where are all of the black golfers?

24 years after Tiger Woods turned pro and there are still no more African Americans playing pro golf, why?

If you were a gifted Blathlete (black athlete) you would certainly spend your time on football, basketball (if you're tall) or baseball.  You can make seven figures as a spot-starter in the MLB, and even if you don't make the bigs there is a sizeable farm system where you can at least make some money while you try.  If you go for golf you gotta pay beaucoup bucks for lessons, green fees, and equipment and then if you don't make the Tour you have few options (minitours are possible, you can pay the bills if you play well).

In the end it's like this:  A high draft pick in the NFL, MLB, or NBA will make set-for-life money the instant they sign their first contract via the signing bonus.  You get paid for how you performed in college.  A champion golfer in university will be invited to play in a handful of PGA tour events - if they miss the cut, they get nada.  Not once cent, even if they were the greatest university golfer in history.

    3 reasons:

#1 - It’s expensive (Blacks don’t make a lot of money compared to whites.)

#2 - It requires rotational strength which blacks don’t have as well as whites (Look at quarterbacks and baseball pitchers.)

#3 - Blacks don’t enjoy nature and water as much as whites (Look at other water and nature based activities. They’re dominated by whites. Blacks prefer to spend their money on possessions opposed to experiences.)

probably because they don't like golf and golf is boring

Probably because many Black Americans live in ethnic enclaves which are usually known for being poor and having high crime rates. Golf is seen as a sport for higher class people and courses are usually out in open nature, rather than near inner city areas. Some golfers might actually discourage them based on the stereotypes and demographics I mentioned above.

When BAME are under represented in a sport , it’s why? We must find out and encourage them more.

When they are over represented, ( football ( both types), rugby, basketball, boxing and athletics, there is no cry to encourage whites.
