If a serpent had the cognition to tempt people, wouldn't that make reptiles smarter than people?

The "serpent" was probably just a metaphor for Satan.
However, it is remotely possible that Satan made it look like the serpent was speaking, or that life was of a higher order before the fall of man. No, that wouldn't make reptiles smarter than man. It would make reptiles in the Garden smarter than they are now.

You mean...you don't "have the cognition" to tempt people?

Lucifer, Satan, the Devil, beelzebub, Belial, and several other Sons of God, formed a gang called the Dragon(serpent); the serpent was not a snake.

Maybe not. Maybe it just means that women are not as bright as reptiles. I have dated some like that.

That serpent/dragon in Eden was Satan, and he was always the smooth talker, the silver tongued devil.
Revelation 12:9 KJV — And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
John 8:44 KJV — He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.
