A plastic fork nothing will happen.  A metal fork or a metal anything will cause sparking and damage to your microwave.

You would be arrested and charged with being a forking nuisance.

It's funny, i just did that the other day, I accidently left a metal spoon in a bowl and ran the microwave for a minute. The spoon was completely submerged in water, and nothing happened at all! I count myself lucky I didn't destroy the thing.

If it is metal it will arc and spark. If it is plastic it will not even get hot unless it has water in the plastic in which case it might melt.

You will have a microwave with a fork in it.

It will behave like a radio antenna and the microwave energy will induce an electric current in the fork.  If it gets close to the sides of the oven, it could arc across.  You may also get an electric discharge between the prongs of the fork.  If there's nothing else in the over, there will be a build-up of energy inside the cavity which will eventually cause the magnetron to overheat and fail.  Then it becomes expensive.

You will be making a trip to your nearest open Walmart for a new microwave.
