Can plants feel pain?

    It depends on how you define pain.  In animals, pain is a conscious recognition of discomfort from physical sensations.  Plants obviously have no consciousness, so they cannot feel pain the way it is felt by an animal.   Some plants do respond in various ways to injuries, but its a stretch to call that type of response pain since there is no consciousness.
