Today, the term is used by Christians who want to feel like they are spiritually secure but have no intention of truly repenting. It is reinforced by paid preachers who may feel the same way and need to have their congregation feel good about the gospel. It is a kind of subtle hypocricy.

God's great plan of salvation provides for the gift of repentance. As we truly strive to change and do better each day, we show our loyalty to God, and His merciful atonement will ensure our salvation. As we seek to do good, we are following the spirit of Christ that leads us to all good and God will lead us to change over time. This change of heart and motives is what it means to be born of the spirit or born again. It is a process that extends way beyond the grave as we gain the heart of God over time. What saves us is where we place our loyalty.

God is not fooled by those who claim to be Christians but who bare no fruit.

Are you truly born again? And how do you know that they are born again? I mean after all, you say you see lots of them saying and doing stupid things. Are you leaving yourself out of this? Don't you have to be without sin before you cast your stone. And does not being a Christian give you the right to be so judgmental and anal retentive when you are saying something rather hypocritical and pointing out people that you aren't even sure if they really are born again.

Being born again is a metaphor of seeing things in a different light after being armed with certain information. You can see things differently but still do and say stupid things. I am sure that not everyone who claims to see things differently actually does but they want to see things differently.

Being "born again" doesn't make a person perfect. We are still human, and still have weaknesses and imperfections.

Nobody on Earth knows. Only God knows. But being born of the Spirit from above is not a magic wand waving event where suddenly the person is erudite and wise. The Bible likens it to being a new-born baby, needing "the milk of the word" (i.e. the Bible). But if a person does not become spiritually strong they will be weak and not grow in grace. Doesn't mean to say they are not born again, however. But Romans chapter 8 gives a few clues to look out for, as evidence.

"There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (i.e. indwelt with the Spirit of Christ). They "do not live according to the sinful nature" and they "have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace." "Those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship... The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children."

So, if you see a person claiming to be a Christian, but they are full of fear and misgivings about their standing before God; if they desire worldly things and not the things of the Spirit; if they display a sinful nature - you may wonder if they are born again or not. If they are, then they are at the spiritual baby stage and need to grow in grace. The real question is, "Are YOU born again, Cee?"

God is the Judge, not us.

But when we are born again Christians, we exhibit these qualities...

Galatians 5:22-26 KJV — The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.

Ephesians 5:9-11 KJV — For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth; Prove what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

When we are spiritually born again, we must then grow to be more like Christ every day. Like babies we must learn to walk, we will stumble and fall, and have many growing pains.

1 Peter 2:2 KJV — As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.

    Dont be so judgmental.

How many of those who claim to be born again [ no , pause ] are truly born again?

None.  One cannot truly be born of the spirit unless he has received the gift of the Holy Ghost from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  They can certainly experience God for themselves, but that is not salvation by itself.

Beats me why any would want to claim they are born again.

A happy person doesn't go around telling people they are happy. A white or black person doesn't go around telling others they are white of black.

Whatever a person is will no doubt become evident from dealing with them.

Everybody that claims to be born again is born again.  What they do with it after that is the question, but we are not to judge.
