A bento box is packed with a variety of attractively arranged ready to eat treats. The box it's packed in is call a bento box and the meal itself is also called a bento box.
Bento boxes for children are often very creative with vegetables cut into animal shapes, foods arranged to make faces, and so on. Google Images shows many examples of bento boxes packed with children in mind.
Some bento boxes are two or more stacking boxes. You can see the polka dot lid behind the food boxes.

My understanding is that salarymen in Japan receive a hot lunch each day brought to the office by his wife. Sometimes in stacked, joined round containers and more recently in plastic containers similar to takeaway food containers in the US. The container and the lunch is called bento box.
