    given

    a = - 3i + 2j

    b = - i + 2j

    a - 2b

    =- 3i + 2j - 2(- i + 2j)

    = - 3i + 2j + 2i - 4j

    =- i - 2j Answer//

    It is simply an ordered subtraction (the "i" components are done in one operation, the "j" in a separate operation).

    a = -3i + 2j

    b = -i + 2j

    2b = -2i + 4j

    a - 2b = -3i + 2j - (-2i + 4j)

    careful with signs

    a - 2b = -3i + 2j + 2i - 4j

    do the "i" separately from the "j"

    a - 2b = -3i + 2i + 2j - 4j

    a - 2b = -i - 2j
