Do swimmers/singers have a larger lung capacity?

There is a science design lab we have to do for class. What is the independent variable, dependent variable and controlled variable(s)? The question/experiment is stated above. Is the swimmer/singer the independent? I appreciate the help :)

    The variable you measure is the dependent one - in this case = the measured lung capacity. So, the independent variable is the type of subject - eg. swimmer, singer. Suitable controlled variables would be everything else that is kept constant - eg. weight, gender, age etc of the tested subjects.

    yes...but they were not born with a large lung capacity...they developed it through breathing exercises over a long period of time
