What does a medical record show?

I got a boo boo 20 years ago and when I got another one 10 years after that, some office-looking worker in the hospital comes in to take my information saying "there's not alot here."

Is there generally a record of every stitch, flu, and ingrown toenail you've had in your life that someone can pull up just like that?

No they cant just pull it up like that to start, paper charts are not on line charts and may not be accessible on line; second, charts do not always transfer from site/practice to site/practice unless specifically requested, third, charts are stored off site after a set amount of time and relatively inaccessible.  Therefore, there wasnt much in you available records 10 years after the last visit. For any of those above reasons.
