Why do cats do the paw thing?

I was with my cat in my room and i was playing by putting my head under the covers and do a little whimpering voice, almost like a kitten’s voice. And my cat did the paw-ing like digging motion. Not kneading or aggressive digging like dogs do, but sort of like touching continuously. What does that mean? I was just curious and wondering why he did that? Did he actually thought i was a kitten hahahaha...

Your cat was indeed "kneading". Kneading is a common behavior seen in domestic cats, in which the feline pushes in and out with its front paws, alternating between left and right. ... In adulthood, a cat supposedly will knead when it's feeling happy or content because it associates the motion with the comforts of nursing and its mother.
