No, (x + 2)^2 - 25 = 0 is not a perfect square:

(x + 2)^2 - 5^2 = 0

(x - 3)(x + 7) = 0

no, it is not a perfect square, but it IS the difference of two squares and can be factored as such:

(x+2)^2 - 25 = 0

(x + 2 + 5) (x + 2 - 5) = 0

(x + 7) (x - 3) = 0

x = -7 or x = 3

(x + 2)² - 25 = 0

Add 25 to both sides

(x + 2)² = 25

Take the square root of both sides

x + 2 = ±5

Subtract 2 from both sides

For x + 2 = -5

x = -7

For x + 2 = 5

x = 3

Therefor

Its pretty simple.

Add 25 to both sides so that you get (x+2)^2=25.

Then, take the square root of both sides to remove the square to get x+2=5.

Solve like you normally solve an equation. Isolate x by subtracting 2 from both sides to get x=3.
