Why is the coronavirus death toll so high in the UK?

Here in Australia we have only had just 91 deaths! But the UK has managed to score over 38,000 deaths how did you guys manage that?

Almost just as bad as the USA but at least you don't have trump in charge.

I know other European countries have had high death rates but the UK is Island and shouldn't your borders between Scotland, England, Wales been closed off and no international flights unless emergency?

A key reason behind Australia’s comparatively low statistics was its swift response  as it was able to learn from other countries that were experiencing the virus earlier and done through social distancing, closing international borders and mass testing and tracing to suppress the virus....of course it also helps as it is a huge country where people  live many miles away for each other with only 25 million people...... the UK has 64 million people crammed onto the island of Britain, so Australia about 32 times bigger than United Kingdom and the UK with nearly x3 more people so social distancing is much harder and  they were slower to act.

Corona virus deaths are due to contamination and I think the local administration should follow the lockdown policy and people should obey the instruction of the healthcare department.

Borders between England, Scotland and Wales can't be closed.

The UK population is much larger than Australia, almost thrice as large.

Banning international travel was considered racist and xenophobic by the left.Anyone who tested positive for the virus and died, no matter the cause of death was counted as a death from the virus.  This means that if someone had a fatal heart attack and had the virus, the death is counted as virus death and not a heart attack.  The UK is not alone in this.  Several other EU countries and the US admit counting deaths in this manner. On the other hand, Sweden did not take drastic measures and the number of cases and deaths are below much of the world.

What does this have to do with travel?

The UK shut things down way too late, and wasn't prepared. Poor government planning and management.

You don't know much about the UK do you. Because if you knew anything about it, you would know that the borders between Scotland and England, and Wales and England cant be closed.

lack of testing- especially Front line and Care homes is one big reason

Death in care homes were not being reported in the daily count at the beginning either.

    population desinity .
