My friend said if you drink alcohol BEFORE 4:30pm, that makes you an alcoholic?? Do you agree?

He said his grandpa told him if you wait til 4:30pm or after to drink, then that’s considered “normal” or OK to drink times. But if you drink BEFORE 4:30pm, that means you’re showing signs of an alcoholic?? Do you agree with any of this?

Alcoholism isnt about the time when you start drinking, its about compulsion or habit. If you have a dribk at 4:30pm every day, the moment its spcially acceptable to do so, even if its just one drink, tjat can be a sign of alcoholism. On the other habd if you atart srinking at 9am, but only do so once, thats not a complusive habit, and not a sign of alcoholism

    No.

It might make you a drunk.

    Alcoholics go to meetings.

    thats hardly a criteria.

If I have a beer with my lunch but haven't drank in years and don't intend to till maybe next year for lunch, I am an alcoholic?? Highly doubtful.

If you wait till 4:30 p.m and then are drunk for the rest of your life, yup an alcoholic.

The reason you start drinking not the time is important.

Obviously not. But then I know what “an alcoholic” is. You and your friend don't.

It used to be 4:30-5pm for Polite Company. Now it is 12Pm.

Bullcrap. A shift worker who has one drink three times a week, at 8 AM after getting off work, is an alcoholic, but the person that slams down a six pack every night starting at 5 PM isn't? Bullcrap.

Thus the expression, “it must be five ‘o’clock somewhere” to justify earlier imbibing. Time will tell if one is an alcohol abuser or alcoholic

It is after 4:30pm somewhere in the world -- so you can drink.

Time doesn't matter, it is if you need alcohol.

If you have to must a drink after 4:30pm, you are an alcoholic.
