Why is some police cars have a hard plastic backseat and some is vinyl?

Few months ago our school resource officer at our high school was showing us his police car as part of career day at our school. The backseat of his police car was soft vinyl (it was also tight my legs were against the cage) but i remembered from TV and online alot of police cars have hard plastic seats.

Which is better the hard plastic or the soft vinyl? And what do officers and criminals prefer?

Thanks

Update:

Was a good to wear hightops and Adidas trackpants to career day? They also had fire truck and ambulance and few others presentations for career day

They come with vinyl from the dealer. If you want hard plastic, you pay extra for it. Some departments think it is worth the extra expense because it is easy to clean and difficult to hide things that could be missed during the search. The hard plastic is also thinner, so there is actually more leg room. That is an advantage to the person riding back there.

Hard plastic is easier to clean, and harder to conceal items you don't want found on you if searched in.  What you are calling 'soft vinyl' in the photo is the seating the manufacturer puts in the base model of the vehicle for sale to the public. It probably costs less, which makes a difference for some departments.

Any respectable criminal knows the best material for police cars is leather.   You really need to see a therapist to help you get over your obsession with police cars.

The hard plastic is easier to clean after someone pees or barfs on it.
