Soccer in the US will never come close to the popularity of the NFL, or even college football for that matter. Soccer even lags far behind MLB, the NBA, and the NHL.

It will take time for them to fully come to terms with the awful truth that what was called football by liars is a version of rugby. The excuse to call it football was to call a rugby thing, which isn't even a ball,a football! However, plastic rugby men in tights will indeed end up down the super duper toilet bowl.

Soccer (which is what we call it to distinguish it from NFL style football) is growing in popularity here in the US.  But don't fool yourself, the number of people who prefer it to NFL style football are few and far between and most of them have a background that explains it (like being an immigrant or having played it at a high level or something).  The simplest measure is to look at TV revenue.  The NFL made 7.2 billion last year in TV revenue.  MLS made 90 million.

Soccer as a spectator sport is not very popular except for the World Cup....which is not ENTIRELY about nationalism as many Americans will watch World Cup nowadays even after the USA has been eliminated.  But nobody is watching our regular seasonal soccer leagues in this country.  The Big Four team sports, plus a couple other things like golf and NASCAR, really dominate the sports calendar such that soccer in the US is having a really hard time breaking into that crowded calendar.  Hockey, the poor man among those Big Four, made 600 million in TV revenue.  So MLS made about 15% of what the smallest of the Big Four sports made.

"many"  Sure. I know many personally.

MLS' average attendance in 2019 was ranked 3rd for all major sports.  Both Atlanta and Seattle sell out NFL stadiums multiple times a season.2019 Ave AttendanceNFL:  66kMLB:  28kMLS:  21kNBA:  18kNHL:  17kBaseball is honestly just pathetic given it's supposed to be a national past time.  It would be worth looking up the numbers against stadium/arena capacities as the NBA/NHL are obviously not playing is as large of places.PS:  I fully expect the all knowing NFL crowd in this section to down vote this.  Facts are not their strong point.

Not many. Most immigrants from Europe, Asia and Latin America because they either grew up playing soccer or their parents did, so they like that sport more than American football.
