How come people think theres no oxygen in space?
I think we all agree the sun is a massive ball of fire. You can't have fire without oxygen. Therefore there must be oxygen in space.

this person has a valid point and good question.
nobody here can claim to say their answer explains anything because nobody has gone to the sun yet. To sit at your keyboard and tell me or others the Sun is just a giant nuclear fission reactor generating plasma or w/e is lame.
until you can go there and document the evidence or maybe come up with something better than ok fine.
as it stands, the sun is a giant ball of fire.
well done Drew good question, don't listen to these people they're trying to brain wash you. The sun is just a big ball of flames so don't worry so much about it.

Sorry--we are not all in agreement that the sun is a big ball of FIRE. It's not burning like fire burns with oxygen and materials. It's gas--and what is glowing is nuclear fission. Totally different process. And it's not made of oxygen.
There is little to no breathable oxygen in space. Just molecular oxygen--which doesn't allow humans to breathe.

You should really read more about the sun...

There is, but on a planet.

No, we don't agree that the sun is a massive ball of fire.

No, we do not all agree the Sun is a ball of fire. It isn't. It's a ball of hot plasma producing energy by nuclear fusion. One day you might learn some nuclear physics and understand what's going on. THE SUN IS NOT ON FIRE, OK?
You only need oxygen for chemical burning. Nuclear fusion is a totally different process.
Don't worry, scientists didn't understand how the Sun could be burning for billions of years - it should have burnt out a long time ago if it was actual fire.- until radioactivity was discovered. So they made the same mistake as you because they didn't know any better.

Oxygen is a fuel. Gasoline is also a fuel. If you put gasoline into an airless vacuum and then ignite it with a heat source or spark, it will burn despite the lack of oxygen. Oxygen is just one fuel that fire feeds upon, not the ONLY fuel. As for the sun, it's not fire it's hydrogen fusion.
- nineteenthlyLv 72 months ago
Well there is oxygen in space but the Sun is not on fire is it? It's too hot for chemical reactions.
- AcetekLv 42 months ago
I think you don't have two neurons to rub together. The Sun is not a ball of fire. It is a hydrogen fusion reactor
- billrussell42Lv 72 months ago
no, we don't agree, because it is not a ball of fire. fire means something burning in air or oxygen, and the sun it not that. It is a massive nuclear fusion reaction at millions of degrees.

The Sun is Nuclear Plasma
