Run an antivirus scan , detect the exact virus and download a fix.

Depends on the virus.  Some are easily removed by deleting a single file that hold it.  Other take a lot more work to get rid of them.  We would need to know which of the thousands of viruses it is have to have a solution.

If you are running Windows, do a full scan of the computer with the build in Defender software. That will get rid of most viruses.  Then download and run a copy of Malwarebytes.  It will do a second scan (with different parameters) and may find anything the first scan missed.  Normally between them they can clear 99% of the viruses around.  If nothing else, they would tell you what virus it is so that you can look for instructions on how to remove that specific virus.

Try system restore first, if that doesn't work, then try nondestructive system recovery

I agree with this answer.  If you know your computer is infected, you have not idea what else may have been installed.  You can remove the virus you see, but you can never be sure your computer is clean.

Many free anti-virus programs will work fine--do a Google search.  Cannot be specific from only "computer" and no details what system you have.  You are on your own since I don't do blind guessing.
