He fired General MacArthur for disagreeing with his decisions in Korea when MacArthur was very popular showing real leadership in his role as commander in chief. He ended the segregation of black troops in the armed forces. He made the difficult decision to use the A Bomb against Japan to end the war sooner and in the long run to save lives that would have been lost fi the war had continued to the invasion of the Japanese mainland a difficult decision.

I respect him for taking the unenviable decision to bomb Japan with a WMD (twice) yet sacking MacArthur when he was gung ho for nuclear attacks against The Soviet Union and Korea.

ps, It also goes to prove that you don't have to go to college to become US President.
