Hit mainland Europe 1348 lasted 4 years and killed half the population of Europe/Asia, more or less died out but kept recurring until the 19th century.

No, it lasted for years. In Europe, the peak plague years were 1347-1351, claiming the lives of between a third and a half of the total population.

Nor did it go away after this initial surge. Plague continued to strike for centuries. Most famously, perhaps, the Great Plague of London 1665-6.

Oh, no. Not as long as that. It only lasted for a couple of days. Thankfully, no-one died, or anything, though one man (in London, I think) developed a bit of a cough.

Did the peasants ever stop working when they got sick or did they just die hungry in the fields.

It went on from 1347 to 1351. I bought a t-shirt from a comic book store that was making a parody of the Black Death and musician tour dates.

It had a rat on the front that said Black Death European tour. 1347 - 1351. On the back, it lists all the European cities that got hit and the year.
