Are humans a product of incest?

Think about it, somewhere down the line when humans (or whatever we evolved from) first started reproducing, there was only a male and female. In order for their son or daughter to carry down the bloodline and build the family tree, they would have to have sex with another female/male in the family since there is no other family of the same specie. What’s up with that?

It seems so, if you believe in Christianity.  But of course, they would say "before humans were cast out of Eden, having sex with your siblings was all right" or something like that.

Why would there be only a male and a female?  Entire populations evolve.  And what do you mean, "when humans first started reproducing?"  Do you imagine a time when our ancestors didn't reproduce?

Update for thumbsdowners: I take it that you imagine a time when our ancestors didn't reproduce.

There was never a first man or woman - individuals do not evolve at all - only populations evolve. So what we had were gradually evolving populations of almost-humans that consisted of males and females that eventually became fully human...

ultimately, yes. Genetically we are so similar that scientists assume we went through a genetic bottleneck, twice.

They assume we were down to a few hundred, or at most a few thousand, individuals a few dozen millennia ago, and some time before that.

Mutations have nothing to do with "the fall". They are the result of DNA-copying errors ("typos"). Each of us has about 10, which considering the size of our genome is extremely few

Yes, Adam and Eve's children would have married each other. Abraham married his half sister. It was not until the time of Moses that marriage between close relatives was forbidden.

Genetically this makes sense. Adam and Eve would have been created with perfect genomes, but following the fall the genomes would have started to accumulate mutations. Initially the chance of siblings having the same mutation thus causing a genetic disease would have been negligible, however after a few thousand years as the genetic load increased the risks associated with marriage between close relatives would have increased substantially, leading to the laws about incest being made.

    So the Bible makes sense.

Nobody knows what went on millions of years ago. They can only guess.
